Comparative and Superlative:


COMPARATIVO DE IGUALDADE:
- Frases Afirmativas:
AS + ADJETIVO / ADVÉRBIO + AS
- Poderíamos traduzir o primeiro AS por TÃO e o segundo AS por QUANTO.
Ex: Mark is as intelligent as his brother. (Mark é tão inteligente quanto o irmão dele)
I am as tall as my brother. (Eu sou tão alto quanto meu irmão.)
- Frases Negativas:
NOT SO + ADJETIVO/ADVÉRBIO + AS
Ex: Mark isn't so intelligent as his brother.
Mark isn't as intelligent as his brother.
COMPARATIVO DE INFERIORIDADE:
LESS (menos) + ADJETIVO / ADVÉRBIO + THAN (do que)
Ex: Mark is less intelligent than his brother.
I am less tall than my brother.

COMPARATIVO DE SUPERIORIDADE
- Adjetivos pequenos: Aqueles que têm uma sílaba na pronúncia ou aqueles que têm duas sílabas, mas terminam em Y.
Ex: tall, short, small, strong, funny.
Adjective ( ER/IER-Y ) + THAN
Ex: Alessandra is taller than Maria. (mais alta)
Alessandra is funnier than Maria (mais engraçada)
- Adjetivos grandes: Todos que não são pequenos. Duas ou mais de duas sílabas (exceções dos adjetivos terminados em Y)
Ex: comic, beautiful, intelligent.

MORE + ADJ + THAN
Alessandra is more beautiful than Maria. (mais bonita que)
Obs: Caso haja advérbio em vez de adjetivo, utilizaremos o mesmo esquema utilizado para os adjetivos grandes, tanto no comparativo de superioridade como no superlativo, com exceção dos advérbios monossilábicos. Os advérbios que possuem uma única sílaba apresentam a mesma forma que os "adjetivos pequenos":
Ex: She speaks more quickly than her brother.
Ex: They arrived sooner than expected.

SUPERLATIVO
- Adjetivos pequenos: Aqueles que têm uma sílaba na pronúncia ou aqueles que têm duas sílabas, mas terminam em Y.
THE + adj ( EST / IEST-Y)
Ex: Alessandra is the tallest of the class.
Alessandra is the funniest of the class.
ADJETIVOS GRANDES: Todos que não são pequenos.
Ex: comic, beautiful, intelligent.
THE + MOST + ADJ
Ex: Alessandra is the most beautiful of the class.
