· Ações acabadas no passado definido (algo que aconteceu ou existiu)
· Ações habituais no passado

I never met my grandfather.
Bob and Tom always worked.
When I lived near the beach. I went swimming every morning.

Verbos Regulares:
· Acrescenta-se ED para todas as pessoas (todas as conjugações)
· Verbos terminados em Y precedido de consoante troca para IED.

Study – studied carry - carried

· Verbos terminados em CVC, com a última sílaba sendo forte: Dobra a consoante + ED.

Stop – stopped Permit- permitted Occur- occurred Chat-chatted

· Terminados CVC, a última não sendo a sílaba forte: Não dobra consoante.

Listen-listened Open-opened
Develop – developed Fasten-fastened


Forma Afirmativa:

SUJEITO + INFINITIVO (-TO) + ED

He cleaned his bedroom yesterday.
I opened the window because It was too hot.

Forma Negativa:

SUJEITO + DID NOT + INFINITIVO (-TO)

· Verbo principal fica no infinitivo sem “to”
· Auxiliar didn’t

They didn’t pay the bill.
She didn’t say that.

Forma Interrogativa:



DID + SUJEITO + INFINITIVO (-TO)

Where did they go?
Did he leave last week?

· Alguns advérbios de tempo que acompanham o passado simples: Yesterday, last(week, year, Friday, month), in 1978, an hour ago, four months ago.
